Costco Protection Update
Wednesday, February 28, 2007
I was chatting with a user earlier today about Costco's return/price protection policy. There's been a lot of talk on the web about them changing their incredible unlimited policy. No one seems to have a straight anwser on the new policy's length -- there are conflicting reports of everywhere from 30 days to six months.

I found a link to one of Costco's promotional documents listing the policy as 90 days, so I'm going with that one. I've upped the protection period in Price Protectr (it used to be 30 days) and updated everyone who currently has Costco purchases under protection.

A 'My Stuff' Clarification
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
First of all, welcome to everyone who's visiting this site from the Kim Komando Show. Price Protectr was featured as the cool site of the day for February 20th.

I received a number of emails today asking how to sign up for Price Protectr. For anyone who might be confused, the site's completely free and everyone can use it. However, if you tried to create a My Stuff account without every having used Price Protectr, it would tell you that the feature was only available for users. That was just an arbitrary decision -- I figured people wouldn't want to see their price protection history if they had never used the site. Well, it seems that enough people do, so I've removed that restriction. Have fun!

Your Price Is Right
Monday, February 19, 2007
There are a bunch of cool updates tonight.

You now have the option to change your purchase price before you submit your item for protection. Just click the pay a different price? link. Enter your actual purchase price, click protect and viola! Price Protectr will notify you when it drops below what you paid for it rather than what was on the website.

If you couldn't use Price Protectr because your email address started with a digit, you can now. So get protectin.

And, last but not least, Price Protectr now supports American Musical Supply. Rock on.

Speeding Things Up
Friday, February 16, 2007
Do things seem faster around here today? I've been working on optimizing the site to load faster and make the Price Protectr experience even better.

I've had a lot of great feedback from people about the My Stuff feature. Keep it coming! And people keep saving lots of money. Can you believe the total was only $10,000 less than a month ago? Here's another real email from a real Price Protectr user:

I saved $80, thanks!

I found you guys through LifeHacker, and I'm glad I did. I recently bought a $280 printer through Amazon in order to take advantage of a promo HP had going on ($75 cash back). Well, now the printer dropped $80 - almost 33%! I got an email to let me know, did a request through Amazon, and boom, I've got $80 back in my pocket!

Now that $280 printer is only costing me $125!

Introducing My Stuff!
Tuesday, February 13, 2007
Did you notice the new tab across the top? Today I'm excited to bring you the new My Stuff page which collects a lot of great information, including your item protection history, when your items go off price protection, their current prices, and more. Sounds cool, right? Here's a screenshot.

As always, we maintain our strict privacy standards. Creating an account for My Stuff doesn't sign you up for any mailing lists or otherwise unwanted emails. And it uses https so you know your personal information is safe.

Give it a try, and let me know what you think!

Fan Mail
Thursday, February 8, 2007
I've gotten a lot of notes from people lately telling me how much they've been saving with Price Protectr. Here's a real email from a happy user:

Awesome Site, Thanks a 150 bucks worth!

Just wanted to let you know what I think of your service... its awesome, I saved an additional $150 on a laptop that I already thought was an awesome deal. it ended up being more than 10% back I wasnt expecting. Seriously keep up the great work, this is the coolest thing i've found on line since digg.

thanks again,

Jordan B
Bowling Green, KY

The laptop dropped in price just 5 days after Jordan added the item for price protection, and he headed back to Best Buy to pick up his refund. That's pretty sweet! Congratz to Jordan and everyone else who's picked up a nice big price drop over the past couple weeks. Keep protecting all the cool stuff you're buying, and don't forget to tell your friends about Price Protectr!

Now Supporting Amazon.de!
Friday, February 2, 2007
I've had a ton of requests for Amazon.de, so there you go. In addition to not speaking German, I had to change a whole bunch of stuff to get it to work (although it should make it a lot easier to add non-US sites from now on). So if there are any problems or things seem a bit wacky, let me know!
